About Elise
Elise Roberts was born on 26th November 1998, just in time for her older sister's 13th birthday. Punctual as ever. Her first trip was not home, it was to Sainsbury's to pick up her sister's birthday cake.
She grew up in Derby. A small city somewhere near Nottingham, is how she would describe it to those she met on her travels. When she was seven and on a trip to the Dominican Republic, she was surprised to hear some one say 'oh yes, Derby County is the football team' and then she was pleased to not have to reference Derby's larger rival for once.
At the age of eighteen in 2017, after a turbulent time of A Levels and general upset she moved to Lincoln to start her Bachelor's degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, blissfully unaware of the fact that the Inbetweeners had dubbed it a place of 'second-rate education'. She was happy to start this new chapter and gain some life experience after a much sheltered childhood, thanks to her sister's appetite for "wild" parties preventing her from attending the ones she was invited to in her teenage era.
At university she would thrive under the guidance of authors and creative minds she could relate to. She got a taste for Crime from author and academic Dr Sarah Stovell, a love for Blake and poetry from Prof. Jason Whittaker, and a craving for excitement and fantastical escapism from Dr Christopher Dows. Throughout her degree Elise was taught to write in various formats such as screenplays, short fiction, magazine writing, novel, and other innovative forms. And she also dabbled with many genres, except for horror, which she can absolutely not stomach due to an overactive imagination. Thanks to Steven King she still checks her wardrobe every night after watching one of his blockbusters in 2017.
During her Bachelor's Elise attended Church to balance out the merryment she partook in with her flatmates and in 2018 she met Paul, who became her best friend and love. He supported her through both her degrees and in March 2021 they bought a house in a Lincoln suburb and started the journey of co-habiting whilst Elise worked in a local bank and finished her Masters in Creative Writing. Elise is currently still balancing work and her writing life. This blog is an exhibition of her work, her thoughts on anything literary, book reviews, and any major Elise-related news stories.
